Winter Interior.

So far our Winter has been cold, dry, and snow-less. I am reasonably content with that, but we still have February to contend with.

There is no question that our climate is changing. We had a reasonably hot, and very dry, Summer, and water levels are dangerously low. I can't remember the last time we had any precipitation greater than light drizzle.

Our recent temperatures have fallen as low as -9 C; a crisp white frost covered everything, and froze our outdoor gas cylinder.

We try to do all our tasks in the mornings, then settle down at around tea-time to enjoy the rest of the day indoors. Of course clear sky frosts bring sunny days, and being out in the sun at mid-day is delightful.

I now have a cup of Lapsang by my side, shortbread biscuits are on offer, and the animals are all asleep enjoying the indoor warmth.

Lady Magnon continues to find work for me to do (she has a diploma in 'Delegation'), so we continue to be busy.

Life is OK.

    1. Too untidy. We need de-cluttering.

  2. Quite an obstacle course for Freddie although I see he was asleep when the photo was taken.

    1. That's as close as he gets to Bok; he likes about 2 ft between them.

    2. I hadn't noticed Bok; I thought it was a black rug. No room left for Lady M to sit down..

  3. Your winter is cold but sunny..sounds like ours at the moment. Morning tea outside (in a jacket) is possible most days but we at least have had many inches of rain and the snow. As you say we still have February to come and march, in like a lamb out like a lion.
Delegation, delegation, delegation. The only way to go!

    1. We couldn't eat, or take tea, outdoors at the moment, although we have put a bench against a south facing wall up at the barn where it's always amazingly warm. Maybe we should take a flask up there!

  4. I have always liked your diamond patterned walls. Is it wallpaper or painted on?

  6. Sounds like a cosy winter lifestyle to me - with activity during the day to make your life still healthy. Maybe Lady M's diploma is a health one - keep you active all day.

  7. It looks so cozy. Is that a dog and a cat on the sofa? 13 years ago I left Johannesburg in the height of summer (February) and landed the next morning in France.Imagine my dismay as my sandalled toes stood in two inches of snow as I walked through the corridor from the plane to the airport!

    1. I remember flying back to Heathrow from Miami, and the captain saying that it was snowing in London. Everyone on the plane laughed.... we were all in shorts!

  8. Minus 3 here at the moment and a very, very bright sun is shining. I like it this way with no rain and no snow. It is snowing in central Italy where it never snows and where the earthquake hit. The earth is still shaking there - poor people. Like you, I am also very grateful with life. You have a lovely home.
    Greetings Maria x

    1. You seem to have had several 'disasters' recently. A had a friend who was killed in the earthquake in Aquila several years ago; horrible.

    2. Yes, I remember you mentioning it Cro, it must've been terrible for you.

Latest disaster; on Friday an Hungarian school bus accident on the motorway here in Verona, my son is an ambulance voluntary and was on duty that night; awful experience x

  10. That room looks so warm and inviting. Don't worry about the rainfall, I'm sure it will start pouring towards the end of March!

  11. Much the same here in Ontario. Lots of snow on the ground but decent temperatures and a little rain. Not a bad January. There are cats on cushions here and short-bread in the cupboard. It's time to grab a coffee and tend to the bird feeders. Your room looks so cozy and I love the china cupboard with a few treasures displayed. Deb

    1. That's a small part of my white 'peasant' pottery collection. I can't stop myself from buying more and more. Time to light the fire and put the kettle on; a quiet Sunday afternoon.

  12. This whole month has been unseasonably warm for rhetoric second year in a row. I'm beginning to think we're never going to have a proper winter

    1. Warm for rhetoric? I meant January! Autocorrect is funny sometimes!

    2. Same here, last year was quite similar; no snow and no very low temperatures. I'm not complaining!

  13. Cozy, cozy. Who dusts? I virtuously cleaned this morning, but overlooked the dusting, which was the cause of cleaning. I could write in some of it. Oh, well. Next week.

    1. Dusting is not really a priority in this house. With a wood-fired heater, and two animals, the amount of cleaning is crazy. We just leave it until it becomes 'obvious'.

  14. A cozy picture! Our weather is definitely changing... milder winters, hotter summers... we've had too much freezing rain lately and I hate it!

    1. We had a lecturer at college who was in Canada during a period of 'freezing rain'. His photos were spectacular. I'd never seen it before.

    1. Yes, it's a lovely little house. 300 years old and still keeping folk warm.

  16. I'm late in commenting here. Is there a penalty? Anyway, that room is much how I envision my new writers studio, lots of rugs, blankets, cushions, bottles of spirits, art and collections. Exactly what our tiny grain bin house can no longer hold. Thanks for the inspiration Cro!
